According to the New York times, bilinguals are smarter! I disagree. There are a lot of people out there who speak more than one language and don’t make the smartest decisions. Yet, there are advantages to learning a language and being bilingual. Besides communicating with people from another culture, watching movies without the aid of subtitles and reading gossip columns in People en Español, it is good for your mental health!
Neuropsychologist Tamar Gollan of the university of San Diego, led a study where people with higher degrees of bilingualism were more resistant to the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Good news!
